More information

Sgt Ralph E. Winegar was a miner before he enlisted in Boise, Idaho on 10 December 1942.

On the night of 7 December 1944, Ralph Winegar left Lindern with several other members of his company on combat patrol. While advancing toward their objective, members of the patrol encountered heavy enemy opposition. When the patrol reorganized a short time later, Sgt Winegar could not be located, although an extensive search was made for him and at that time he was reported missing in action. However, later information has revealed that he lost his life while engaged in carrying out the patrol's mission. His body was later recovered.

Sgt Winegar is remembered at the West End Cemetery in Buhl, Twin Falls County, Idaho.
