Pfc Albert F. Dippel spent several years studying for the priesthood at St. Meinard Abbey in Indiana after he graduated from their high school in 1941. He returned home after the death of his mother in 1944 to help his father to taking care of his brother and sisters.He enlisted in Indianapolis, Indiana on 14 July 1944 and was sent overseas in December of the same year.
His brother John served in Italy.
