Pfc Howard Wolfberg graduated from Altoona High School in 1941.He enlisted in Altoona, Pennsylvania on 3 February 1943 and was selected for the ASTP training program for which he was sent to the University of Louisiana and at Drexel Institute in Philadelphia. When this program was disbanded he was transferred to the infantry. He was sent overseas in September 1944.
He was wounded in action during the battle for Geilenkirchen, Germany on 28 November 1944. After being released from the hospital he returned to his unit on 30 December 1944.
