Pfc Charles A. Mizzell was employed by the Avondale Mills.

He enlisted at Fort McClellan, Alabama on 30 November 1942. He had been overseas about 3 months.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: For gallantry in action against the enemy in Germany, 23 November 1944. When two weapons of the machine gun platoon in which he was serving as gunner were put out of action. Private First Class Mizzell, who had been left behind in reserve, with complete disregard for his own safety, attempted to run through an intense enemy mortar barrage to replace one of the damaged weapons. In this action he was killed by a direct hit from an enemy mortal shell.
