Cpl Edward G. Franklin was employed by the Country Life Press in Garden City.He enlisted in January 1943 and studied under the Army Specialized Training Program at Johns Hopkins University, Maryland until the program was discontinued and he was transferred to the infantry.
Also three of his brothers served. Robert, a Pfc, fought in Germany, Thomas, a U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant served in the Pacific and Charles, a second assistant engineer served with the Merchant Marine.
