Pvt Michael L. Roeder enlisted on 1 July 1942 and was sent overseas in November of the same year.He was taken prisoner in North Africa on 6 April 1943. After being transported to Italy, he was sent to Germany where he was confined at Stalag III-B. He was hospitalized in November 1944, after he had contracted malaria. He died on 8 May 1945, as a result of the disease and an operation for a rupture.
Capt M. J. McDonald, Chaplain sent word to his mother, explaining that Pvt Roder had been ill for six months with asthma and a heart condition before being liberated by the British. He died in a hospital in Belgium.
