Pvt Luther H. Gilbert enlisted in Fort McClellan, Alabama on 29 September 1944.During hiuse to house fighting, Pfc Gilbert was shot in the abdoment. A comrade recalled he walked into a room, holding his guts in his hands and saying "I got shot" before he collapsed on the floor and died.
