Pfc George A. Lindley Jr. was employed by the Bethlehem Steel Co before he enlisted in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania on 12 June 1942 and was sent overseas in October 1942.He was reported wounded in action during the African campaign and spent three months in a hospital recovering from five shrapnel wounds on his left side and hand. Later he rejoined his unit in the European theatre.
He was reported wounded in action a second time on 8 August 1944 and, after recovering, returned to his unit.
