More information

Pfc Arthur L. Buckland worked for the Patsy Narciuss Produce Company.

Mrs. Fannie A. Buckland received the following letter in relation of the death of her husband:
"Dear Mrs. Buckland,
I am writing to you to express my very deepest sympathy on the death of your husband, Private First Class Arthur L. Buckland, 3089187, who was killed on the 17 April 1945 in Korbach, Germany. Arthur was buried at the side of his comrades-in-arms in the United States Military Cemetery located in Breuna, Germany. A Protestant Chaplain of the United States Army officiated at his burial service, which was conducted with full military honors. Your husband was accidentally killed by a gun shot while he was performing the duties of guard. At the time of his death he was directing the transporting of Russian and Polish refugees to the nearby town. Death came instantly and he suffered no pain. The officers and men of his Regiment join me in extending to you our sincere, heartfelt sympathy. Your husband's death is felt most keenly by all those who knew and served with him and his memory remains as an inspiration to us who carry on. We share your loss, and we remember both Arthur and you in our every prayer. Very sincerely yours,
Peter O. Ward, Lt. Colonel, 47th Infantry Commanding, Headquarters Forty Seventh Infantry, APO 9, U.S. Army, 7 May 1945."
