Pvt Frank J. Scott left high school after one year, around the time of his mother’s passing. He was employed as a routeman in New York City. He enlisted in the Army in New York City on 5 February 1942. After recruit training, he was assigned to Company B of 818th Engineer Battalion (Aviation). The unit shipped out to England in late 1942 where it built and repaired airfields. It landed in Normandy in June 1944 aand engaged in airfield construction in France, Luxembourg and Belgium. It entered Germany on Christmas eve of 1944.

On 6 February 1945, Pvt Scott was detached from the 818th in Durwiss, Germany and sent to the 12th Reinforcement Depot located in England for training as a combat rifleman. On 24 March 1945, he was detached from the 3rd Replacement Depot in Verviers, Belgium, and assigned to G Company of the 47th Infantry Regiment.
On 29 March, Pvt Scott sustained an accidental gunshot wound while his unit was in reserve at Fronhausen, Germany. He died the following day at the 13th Field Hospital in Seltersweg, Germany. He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Ittenbach, Germany. He subsequently was reburied on 5 August 1945 in a temporary grave at Margraten.
