Richard Stake graduated from Mount Carmel High School and attended college for one year. He was the manager at the Kenwood Club.He enlisted in Chicago, Illinois on 19 September 1942. He started officers training at Fort Benning, Georgia and served in Iceland beofre being transferred to the 47th Infantry Regiment in the middle of March 1945.
He was killed leading his rifle platoon on a patrol.
Lt Stake was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemtery at Ittenbach, Germany
