2nd Lt Clifford M. De Boer attended college and was a clerk.His father was born in Iowa but his grandfather on his father's side was born in the Netherlands. Also his mother was born in the Netherlands.
He joined the National Guard in Sheldon, Iowa on 10 February 1941. He left for Camp Claiborne, Louisiana and then to Ireland in February 1941.
After a year and a half he returned to the States as a training officer in Georgia but returned to active duty in August 1944.
