Pfc Hugh P. Hayes was an elevator operator.He joined the National Guard in Chicago, Illinois on 5 March 1941. Due to the fact that he enlisted into the Medical Department of the National Guard, there is a possibility that he was a medical aidman.
He was awarded the Silver Star Medal for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy.
