Pfc Harold R. Stahr graduated from Vinton High School in 1941.

He enlisted at Camp Dodge, Herrold, Iowa on 19 February 1943 and was seelected for the ASTP program. When this program was disbanded, he was transferred to the infantry in April 1944. He arrived in France on 9 September 1944.

His father, Frank Stahr, was a Machinist First Class in the U.S. Navy and a veteran of the first World War. He was stationed somewhere in the Pacific.
