John Garland attended Lamar High School and worked as a farm hand before he enlisted at Fort Oglethore, Georgia on 4 November 1942. He was sent overseas in August 1944.He is remembered at the Mount Wesley Cemetery in Jonesborough, Washington County, Tennessee.
