Pvt Donald W. Rehker graduated from Berea High School in 1942 and attended Ohio State University for one year.He enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 20 February 1943. He was selected for the Army Specialized Training Program (A.S.T.P.) and studied at Louisiana State University.
