S/Sgt Franklin W. Freeborn worked for an oil comapny before he enlisted at Fort Dix, New Jersey on 25 March 1944. He was sent overseas in September 1944.

S/Sgt Freeborn wrote his wife a letter dated 17 March that he had been slightly wounded in the battle for the Roer River and had been awarded the Purple Heart.
