More information

Pfc James R. Schneider graduated from Castlemont High School in June 1942.

He enlisted in San Francisco, California on 6 April 1943. He completed two years of Army Engineering at Forham University and finished his training at Camp Carson. He was sent overseas in September 1944.

Some men from F Company were among many men allowed to visit Omaha Beach. No one knows exactly what happened, but about fifteen men were in a bunker when a terrible explosion occurred, killing all of the men inside. There is the possibility that a naval shell exploded or that perhaps the bunker was booby-trapped. At any rate there were no other visits permitted anymore.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Ste. Mere Eglise No. 2, France.
