More information

Charles Kronk enlisted on 26 August 1941 at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
"While Sgt Kronk's company was in a holding position, they were subjected to a severe enemy counterattack and the platoon of which he was a member became pinned to the ground by enemy machine gun, small arms and tank fire. It was evident that unless immediate action was taken, the enemy would surround them completely. Sgt Kronk was mortally wounded as he attempted to crawl through the severe enemy tank and small arms fire in an effort to reach the company command post. Despite his painful wounds, Sgt Kronk, with the aid of a comrade, succeeded in getting the vital information to his company commander who immediatly took action to relieve the beleaguered paltoon. For this action he was posthumously awarded the Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster."
