S/Sgt Richard S Buracker graduated in 1932 from Crystal Lake Community High School.Sgt Buracker was awarded the Silver Star Medal. The citation reads: Sgt Buracker was leading one of the assault squads in an attack but, as his platoon was advancing, rifle and machine gun fire was received from the flank temporarily stopping all movement. Sgt Buracker gallantly exposing himself to go among his men and encourage them, urged them to advance. As he started to lead the men forward he was killed by machine gun fire but the remainder of the squad continued and completed their mission.
