S/Sgt Charles A. Miezis came from a family of Lithuanian immigrants.

He attended high school for two years and worked in a foundry.

He joined the Regular Army at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland on 22 July 1941.

He was admitted to the hospital in October of 1944, after being struck in the mouth by fragments of an artillery shell. After recovering he returned to his unit.
