S/St Robert B. Vaughn worked on a farm. He enlisted on 12 February 1942 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
He was hit in the back by shrapnel.

He was initially buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery of Fosse, Belgium on 17 September 1944. He was distinterred on 10 August 1948 and given his final resting place at Henri-Chapelle.

He is remembered at the Sandy Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery in Morven, Anson County, North Carolina.
This memorial stone is also a remembrance for his brother Pfc. George C. Vaughn, born on 2 January 1917, Servicenumber 34593975, who enlisted on 7 December 1942 at Camp Croft, South Carolina. He went missing in action on 15 April 1945 in the Pacific. He served with the 597th Signal Air Warning Battalion and his name is inscripted in the Tablets of the Missing on Manila American Cemetery and Memorial.
