Pfc Fernand J. Lepine attended high school for 2 years and was a carpenter before he enlisted in Buffalo, New York on 28 December 1943. He trained with Company D, 219th Infantry at Camp Blanding in Florida.Pfc Lepine emigrated to the United States on 21 September 1926, arriving with the Niagara Railway in New York.
