More information

Pfc Richard J. Conway attended high school for 4 years before he enlisted in Camp Dodge Herrold, Iowa on 22 July 1943.

He was awarded the Silver Star for an action is which he encountered three Germans with a light machine gun at the crossroads. Ordering his men to take cover he advanced alone firing his Browning Automatic Rifle. He killed the three Germans and broke up the road block. Just as victory crowned his efforts, a long range shot by a German sniper killed him.
