Pvt Valentine A. Fries attended high school for 3 years before he enlisted in Toledo, Ohio, on 19 January 1944. He was stationed at Camp Blanding, Florida and was sent overseas in June 1944, landing in Italy.Since then, he had been on the battlefront continuously until 1 November 1944 when he got a three day rest period behind the lines. He had rejoined his company on the same day he was killed.
