More information

T/Sgt Thomas J. Davey graduated from Newton High School and was a teacher.

He enlisted in New York City, New York on 9 November 1942.

T/Sgt Davey received the Silver Star for "gallantry in action on 6 January 1945, when his platoon was ordered to withdraw after suffering a number of losses from heavy enemy artillery, mortar and small arms fire. After he had guided his men to the new position, Sergeant Davey returned through the intense fire to aid a comrade who had been seriously wounded in the action. Although the enemy artillery and mortar fire continued and the steep slope over which he was forced to travel offered no concealment or cover, Segreant Davey carried the wounded man on his back through the enemy fire to safety."
