Pfc Charles R. Yates worked on a farm before he enlisted in Louisville, Kentucky on 2 February 1943.

He died 28 September of wounds received in action in France, three days before, on 25 September 1944.

He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Saint-Juan, France.
