Pfc Leonidas Kirkland worked with the Kissimmee Air Base fire department before he enlisted in Camp Blanding, Florida on 13 January 1944.After moving into France Pvt Lonnie was wounded 18 October 1944. He returned to the front 5 November and was killed a month later.
He was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Hochfelden, France.
He is remembered at the Sardis Cemetery in Abbeville, Henry County, Alabama.
