Pfc Walter Zembik graduated from Lincoln High School in 1937. He was employed at the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA).He enlisted in Cleveland, Ohio on 5 August 1943.
He was wounded in action at Anzio in May 1944. For this wound he was awarded the Purple Heart a first time. After recovering, he rejoined his unit.
Pfc Zembik was first buried at the Temporary American Military Cemetery in Saint-Juan, France.
