F/O Steve Poulos attended Austin High Schoo.He enlisted with the Air Corps on 9 April 1942 in Chicago, Illinois.
His father was born in Greese as Samuel P. Panousopoulos and emigrated to the States on 2 July 1902. He married with Maria in Chicago, Illinois on 1 January 1910. His mother was also born in Greece.
The airplane was attacked by 2 ME 262's and received hits in the top turret and #2 engine. Dense smoke came from the #2 engine and then it made a vertical slow roll on its right wing and burst into flame. It still seemed under control when 2 chutes were observed. Later it was believed to have hit the ground and exploded in a very large flame.
Eight crew members were killed, one was taken prisoner.
