More information
2n Lt Marvin H. Apking was married to Maxine A. Stephenson on 18 January 1942. His wife was pregnant with a second child, Marilyn Kay. She was born in December 1944.The airplane was attacked by enemy fighters. It is possible it was shot down, some records state that it collided with the FW 190 of 1st Lt König of I/JG 11. Due to bad weather and smoke it is uncertain if this collision concerned this B-17 or another one.
The entire crew of ten men was killed. They were buried on 27 May 1944 at the South cemetery of Neumunster.
