S/Sgt Michael J. Tanowigch was a fireman before he volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in San Antonio, Texas on 18 December 1941.The mission was to bomb the industrial area in the suburbs of Berlin. Instead, targets of opportunity were bombed in Oranienburg.
The aircraft was shot down by enemy fighters. Seven crew members were killed, three were taken prisoner.
