The aircraft was attacked by enemy fighters. The left wing was shot off and broke in two at the ball turret. Six crewmembers were killed, four were taken prisoner.

1st Lt Roeder died of wounds in a German prisoner of war camp on 24 May 1944, the same day on which he was shot down.
