John B. Carlisi immigrated with his family to the United States, sailing on the SS Roma on 20 June 1935 under the name Giovanni Battista Carlisi.He was employed by the Ford Motor Co before he enlisted on 23 March 1944.
He officially became a US citizen on 2 August 1944.
Note: According to family, there were two daughters named Verna. One died before they came to the US so they used the name again when they immigrated.
