Pvt Oscar G. Byers enlisted in Louisville, Kentucky on 18 February 1943.He was a member of a three-man reconnaissance patrol which was sent into the Hurtgen Forest, near Obermaulbach, Germany in December 1944. His unit attacked and took all the ground along the patrol route.
