Sgt Thomas E. Mc Maniman was employed at the Alaska colliery before he enlisted on 23 May 1942.Just before he was sent overseas, he was married to Bernice Stetz on 15 June 1943.
He was reported wounded in action twice, first sustaining an eye injury during the first robot attack in England and later receiving shrapnel wounds of the right arm in The Netherlands. He was hospitalized six weeks with the eye injury and was subsequently transferred to the Infantry. The arm wound sent him to a base hospital for a month.
