T/5 Allan W. Taylor enlisted in Los Angeles, California on 3 March 1943 and was selected for the Officers Candidate School at Fort Eustis, Virginia. When he had completed this training, he was sent to college in Washington under the Army Specialized Training Program. When this program was disbanded, he was transferred to the infantry.

After notice of his death, the soldier's parents received a letter from him dated 18 December 1944. In it he said he had been invited to spend Christmas with a family in The Netherlands with whom he had been billeted during a resting period.
