2nd Lt James F. Cain graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1943 after he practiced law together with his father.He was initially buried in a temporary grave at Margraten on 19 November 1944. After being disinterred and after the cemetery was given a permanent status, he was given his final resting place on 3 March 1949.
He was awarded the Silver Star Medal postumously. The citation states: 'After leading a succesful assault, he was killed while supervising the disposition of his troops to insure their personal safety.'
