Pfc Alan D. Loughman enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 29 January 1944.

For four years, Loughman was employed by the Jessop Steel Company and was prominent as a baseball pitcher for the Jessop team and for the Washington team in the County League. He received his basic training at Camp Swift, Tex., and was transferred to Fort Dix, N.J., before going overseas with an infantry division about September 17.
