2nd Lt Paul W. Gibson Jr. was a college student when joined the U.S. Army Reserve on 10 July 1943. He was selected for the R.O.T.C. program and sent to the Knox College.He was reported wounded in action on 6 February 1945 in the vicinity of Gevenich, Germany.
He evacuated to the 48th General Hospital in Paris, were he died from his wounds on 18 February 1945.
He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: While returning from patrol Lt Gibson, wounded by a landmine, refused to accept medical attention before his men had been treated. He radioed headquarters for mortar fire and personally remained in charge of his men until the enemy was beaten back, only then did he allow himself to be evacuated.
