More information
S/Sgt. Robert W. Block received the Bronze Star for "heroic achievement in Germany on Oct. 31, 1944.The citation stated: "As a member of a twenty-five man daylight patrol under the leadership of his patrol leader, Staff Sergeant Block displayed outstanding courage while on a mission for taking enemy prisoners for intelligence purposes. Operating in mid-day under direct enemy observation, machine gun and sniper fire, and in a network of hidden enemy fox holes, the patrol completed its mission by taking seven prisoners from fox holes after silencing enemy snipers that offered resistance and one machine gun with a hand grenade. The courage and devotion displayed by Staff Sergeant Block reflects great credit to himself and to the Military Service."
