More information
Carl Paul worked for the Ford Furniture Co. before he enlisted in December 1942.He was awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The citation cited: For gallantry in action against the enemy in xxx on 21 November 1944. During an assault against the enemy, S/Sgt Paul's squad was pinned down by intense enemy sniper fire. Realizing the extreme danger to which his men were exposed, he crawled and ran forward over 200 yards of open terrain toward the enemy position. In spite of withering enemy fire, he continued on his mission using his rifle and grenades with such deadly accuracy that he killed a number of the enemy snipers in the vicinity prior to being mortally wounded himself. The indomitable courage and spirited determination displayed by S/Sgt Paul inspired his men to continue with the attack and reflects great courage upon himself and the military service.
An older brother, Alonzo G. Paul, served with the Air Corps and is memorialized at Cambridge, England.
His twin brother, Earl, S2c, was stationed at Chase Field, Texas.
