S/Sgt Alfred E. Gledhill attended the University of Georgia with the Class of 1944. He was in the R.O.T.C and played in the band.

He joined the U.S. Army Reserve in Athens, Georgia on 21 October 1942.

He was awarded the Silver Star Medal for protecting wounded comrades during a withdrawal.
