Sgt Robert L. Baker graduated from Hotchkiss High School and attended Wardlaw School.He enlisted in Newark, New Jersey on 27 July 1943 and received his basic training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was an ASTP student at Princeton University for three months and when this project was disbanded het was stationed at Camp Carson, Colorado before he was sent overseas. He arrived in France on 5 September 1944.
His brother Clifford served in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
