S/Sgt Donald A. Kohanke graduated from Port Clinton High School whre he was a basketball star and worked at employed at the United States Gypsum Company.He enlisted in Toledo, Ohio on 19 November 1942 and was sent overseas in August 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal a first time for a hand injury.
S/Sgt Kohanke is remembered at Lakeview Cemetery in Port Clinton, Ottawa County, Ohio.
