1st Lt Lewis Kerrick was formerly a certified ski instructor, teaching under Bill Klein at the House of Vanderford on Donner Summit. He was graduated from Chaminade High School, and was graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute in 1939.He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States as an aviation cadet at Moffet Field, California on 20 December 1941.
Aircraft #42-31113, that was flying above aircraft #42-30872, was attacked by enemy aircraft. One engine was shot off and hit their airplane, causing them both to crash. No parachutes were seen.
The entire crew of both aircraft was killed.
