S/Sgt Earl A. Stevens graduated from Champaign High School and was employed in a bakery.

He enlisted at Chanute Field, Illinois on 14 March 1941. He left for overseas duty in April 1944. In a letter to his family written Nov. 19, he said that he would not be home for Christmas as he had planned because he had been promoted from Staff Sergeant to Technical Sergeant and had volunteered as a bombardier and would take training in England.

"A/C 646, flying in 96th B Squadron, at 1145 hours and at approximately 5127N 1010E was encountered in severe prop wash, stalled and went down in flat spin and exploded in mid air. Parts spread over 1,5 Miles. Two chutes were reported."
