S/Sgt Andrew E. Coleman Jr. graduated from Somerville High School in 1941 and worked in a warehouse. He volunteered for the Air Corps of the Army of the United States in Boston, Massachusetts on 3 December 1942.When the B-17 #42-30860 was attacked by fighters, witnesses saw it exploded and, when going down, colliding with #42-3265 between the Dutch mainland and the Frisian Islands east of Texel.
Nine crew members were killed, one survived and was taken prisoner.
S/Sgt Coleman was initially buried at the cemetery of Kimswerd on 18 December 1943.
