When the B-17 #42-30860 was attacked by fighters, witnesses saw it exploded and, when going down, colliding with #42-3265 between the Dutch mainland and the Frisian Islands east of Texel.Nine crew members were killed, one survived and was taken prisoner.
Lt Hovorka was initially buried at the cemetery of Kimswerd on 18 December 1943. He is also remembered at the Hemingford Cemetery in hemingford, Butte County, Nebraska.
