T/Sgt Silvio V. Martire worked in a factory where they made furniture.
He enlisted in Fort Jay, Governors Island, New York on 18 August 1942.

When the B-17 #42-30860 was attacked by fighters, witnesses saw it exploded and, when going down, colliding with #42-3265 between the Dutch mainland and the Frisian Islands east of Texel.

Nine crew members were killed, one survived and was taken prisoner.

T/Sgt Martire was initially buried at the cemetery of Kimswerd on 18 December 1943.
